{"id":1906,"date":"2014-01-03T03:28:55","date_gmt":"2014-01-03T03:28:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rattlebridge.com\/blog\/?p=1906"},"modified":"2014-01-03T04:42:48","modified_gmt":"2014-01-03T04:42:48","slug":"prayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rattlebridge.com\/blog\/prayer\/","title":{"rendered":"Prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I thought the following thought provoking and very helpful in my prayer life.&#160; It is often hard to pray or know just how to pray.&#160; There are, of course, our more formal prayer like the Lord\u2019s prayer and our Hail Mary, but informal prayer is just talking to the Lord.&#160; In my case, I am always talking to St. Anthony, the saint of lost objects because I lose everything all the time and he always comes through for me.&#160; Anyway, I thought \u201cMom\u2019s Empty Chair\u201d to be inspirational.&#160; <\/strong>    <\/p>\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"100%\">\n<p><strong>Mom\u2019s Empty Chair<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When the minister arrived,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>he found the woman lying in bed with her head<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>propped up on two pillows.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>An empty chair sat beside her bed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The minister assumed that the woman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>had been informed of his visit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I guess you were expecting me, he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;No, who are you?&#8217; said the mother.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The minister told her his name and then remarked,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I was going to show up..&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Oh yeah, the chair,&#8217; said the bedridden woman.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Would you mind closing the door?&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Puzzled, the minister shut the door.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I have never told anyone this,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>not even my daughter,&#8217; said the woman.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;But all of my life I have never<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>known how to pray.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>but it went right over my head.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I abandoned any attempt at prayer,&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>the old woman continued, &#8216;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216; Prayer is just a simple matter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>of having a conversation with Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is what I suggest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Sit down in a chair;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>place an empty chair in front of you,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>and in faith see Jesus on the chair.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s not spooky because he promised,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I will be with you always&#8217;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Then just speak to him in the same way<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>you&#8217;re doing with me right now.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;So, I tried it and I&#8217;ve liked it so much<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>that I do it a couple of hours every day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m careful though. If my daughter saw me talking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>to an empty chair, she&#8217;d either have a nervous breakdown<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>or send me off to the funny farm.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The minister was deeply moved by the story and<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>encouraged the old woman to continue on the journey.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Then he prayed with her, anointed her with oil,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>and returned to the church.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Two nights later the daughter called<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>to tell the minister that her mama<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>had died that afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Did she die in peace?&#8217; he asked.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Yes, when I left the house about two o&#8217;clock,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>she called me over to her bedside,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>told me she loved me and kissed me on the cheek.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When I got back from the store an hour later,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I found her .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But there was something strange about her death<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Apparently, just before Mom died,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>she leaned over and rested her head on the chair<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>beside the bed. What do you make of that?&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I wish we could all go like that.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Just send this to four people or more,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>and do not break this, please.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive..<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I asked God for water, He gave me an ocean.*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Happy moments, praise God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Difficult moments, seek God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Quiet moments, worship God<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Painful moments, trust God<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Every moment, thank God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Nice message for all of us and what a wonderful way to leave this world huh?
