{"id":754,"date":"2010-11-30T01:26:30","date_gmt":"2010-11-30T05:26:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rattlebridge.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/30\/a-bit-of-politics-dog-legislation\/"},"modified":"2010-11-30T01:26:30","modified_gmt":"2010-11-30T05:26:30","slug":"a-bit-of-politics-dog-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rattlebridge.com\/blog\/a-bit-of-politics-dog-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"A Bit of Politics-Dog Legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#160;<font color=\"#500163\" size=\"4\"><em>I know that we are a bit past the election, but I am more than a bit behind in blogging.&#160; By the time I take care of everything that Al and I used to both take care of, I fall very behind.&#160; Except for the state of Missouri, we were pretty lucky in electing those officials with favorable views on purebred dogs.&#160; In Ohio the big, beefed up \u201cpuppy mill bill\u201d never got to the floor for a vote.&#160; Thought you would be interested in reading the following from the Sportsmen\u2019s and Animal Owners Voting Alliance.<\/em><\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"4\"><strong><em>&#160;<\/em><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>A SAOVA message to sportsmen, pet owners and farmers concerned&#160; about protecting their traditions, avocations and livelihoods from anti-hunting, anti-breeding, animal guardianship advocates. <em>Forwarding and cross posting, with attribution, encouraged. <\/em><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong><font color=\"#ff0000\" size=\"4\"><em><\/em><\/font><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong><font color=\"#ff0000\" size=\"4\">SAOVA<strong>S<\/strong> 2010 Election Wrap Up<\/font> <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Dear SAOVA Friends, <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>It&#8217;s clear from November 2 exit polls that voters had many issues on their        <br \/>minds besides animal rights and the current economy headed that list of         <br \/>election concerns by a large margin. Against that background, sportsmen and         <br \/>animal owners should be encouraged by the number of victories we scored. <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>In head-to-head races between candidates SAOVA endorsed and those supported        <br \/>by the HSUS and its allies, our candidates won 16 out of 26 contests, or         <br \/>better than 62%. <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Some of the SAOVA endorsees who defeated HSUS endorsees include: <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>John Kasich (OH) <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Dan Lungren (CA) <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Cory Gardner (CO) <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Tim Wahlberg (MI) <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Mick Mulvaney (SC) <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Roy Blunt (MO) <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Pat Toomey (PA) <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>SAOVA highlights of the election include defeat of John Hall (D-NY), Carol        <br \/>Shea-Porter (D-NH), and Joe Sestak (D-PA) all of whom received perfect         <br \/>scores of 100 from Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF), the legislative         <br \/>arm of HSUS. <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Also defeated were the following legislators designated as &quot;Leaders&quot; by        <br \/>HSUS: Russ Feingold (D-WI); Phil Hare (D-IL); Ron Klein (D-FL); Frank         <br \/>Kratovil (D-MD); Kendrick Meek (D-FL); James Oberstar (D-MN); John Spratt         <br \/>(D-SC); and Dina Titus (D-NV). <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>For over a decade the HSUS and other anti-animal use groups have introduced        <br \/>federal legislation to amend the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) expanding the         <br \/>scope of USDA\/APHIS inspection and regulation authority to cover retail,         <br \/>in-home breeders.&#160; In Arkansas        <br \/>the Hunting and Fishing Rights Amendment passed with 83 percent of the vote.         <br \/>The Right to Hunt and Fish amendment passed in Tennessee with 87 percent of         <br \/>the vote, and in South Carolina with 89 percent.&#160; <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>Missouri animal owners lost the battle to defeat Proposition B which would        <br \/>set new standards and ownership limits on the existing state regulated dog         <br \/>breeding industry.&#160; Prop B passed with just 51.6% of the votes with HSUS and         <br \/>their anti-dog breeder allies spending $4.3 million dollars on support         <br \/>propaganda. <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>The new Republican majority in the House may afford a more difficult        <br \/>atmosphere for HSUS and their animal rights inspired legislation.&#160; The         <br \/>incoming Speaker of the House, John Boehner (R-OH), is no stranger to HSUS         <br \/>and their tactics.&#160; During Ohio&#8217;s raging battle on the HSUS 2010 ballot         <br \/>initiative, Boehner stated, &quot;HSUS is a special interest group that has been         <br \/>waging war on our agriculture community in recent years in an effort to         <br \/>impose its extreme animal rights agenda.&quot; <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>However, new House members may be uneducated on such issues. The new        <br \/>&quot;freshman&quot; legislators, regardless of party, need to hear from us.&#160; They         <br \/>need to know that our rights with respect to animals and hunting are         <br \/>important to us, and that we are the authority on animal welfare. HSUS along         <br \/>with their radical agenda must be exposed. <\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#500163\" size=\"3\"><strong>The animal rightists will continue to move forward always finding new        <br \/>methods to promote their ideology. They will be increasingly active at the         <br \/>state and local level, and we will need more and better-organized         <br \/>opposition.
