{"id":830,"date":"2011-02-22T20:31:08","date_gmt":"2011-02-23T00:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rattlebridge.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/22\/pop-stars-singing-at-sporting-event-need-to-get-with-the-program\/"},"modified":"2011-02-22T20:31:08","modified_gmt":"2011-02-23T00:31:08","slug":"pop-stars-singing-at-sporting-event-need-to-get-with-the-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rattlebridge.com\/blog\/pop-stars-singing-at-sporting-event-need-to-get-with-the-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Pop Stars Singing at Sporting Event Need to Get With the Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\" size=\"5\" face=\"Tahoma\"><strong>Amen . . .<\/strong><\/font>            <\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" width=\"1531\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"1529\">\n<p><font color=\"#ff0000\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\"><strong>Received this from a friend and thought it was worth passing on:<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"5\" face=\"Tahoma\"><\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"5\" face=\"Tahoma\">To the pop stars singing our national anthem:<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">So, with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event:<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">Save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts. <\/font><\/strong><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten \u2014 <\/font><\/strong><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">straight up, no styling. <\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">Sing it with the constant awareness that <\/font><\/strong><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines watching you <\/font><\/strong><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">from bases and outposts all over the world. <\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">Don\u2019t make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification. <\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 86-year-old WWII vets <\/font><\/strong><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans <\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">You want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love \u2014 <\/font><\/strong><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. <\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">They could see that from the costumes, the makeup and the entourages.&#160; <\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">Sing \u201cThe Star Spangled Banner\u201d with the courtesy and <\/font><\/strong><b><strong><font color=\"#600b66\" size=\"4\" face=\"Tahoma\">humility that tells the audience that it is about America , NOT you.<\/font><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amen . . .
